What does it involve?

There are 3 key themes to the project which will give young people the very best chance at finding a volunteering opportunity to suit their needs and requirements.

Aim 1

This will see groups of young people designing, delivering and developing community focussed projects, while learning many practical and life based skills in the process. Young people will take part in every aspect of the work from identifying the project, raising the funds and then delivering the finished project to the community. This work will help to give young people a stake in the communities in which they live.

Aim 2

This is aimed at smaller groups of young people (between 2 and 3) and charging them with creating local social histories; documenting the life and change of their local communities as a consequence of social and political change.  It will involve working with older people in the community and this intergenerational work will help to break down the barriers between these age groups.

Aim 3

Young people engaging in individual volunteering opportunities, enhancing their CV's and enriching their experience.

This project will benefit not only young volunteers, by giving them an opportunity to gain skills, self esteem and useful experience; but also the wider community who will benefit from the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers who are engaged and committed.Research shows that 95% of young people want to play an active part in shaping their own volunteering opportunity, this project allows them to do just that.

The YOU (Youth Opportunities Unlimited) Project has been designed to allow young people a chance to show the positive work they can bring to their communities. The project will work exclusively in North East Derbyshire and will give young people a chance to be involved in issues that affect their community at both a decision making level and an action level.
